What is the North-West T-Way?

The North-West T-way is a NSW State Government initiative to improve public transport in North-West Sydney. The T-way provides new bus-only roadways and bus lanes on existing roads from Rouse Hill to Parramatta and from Parklea to Blacktown.

The T-way will facilitate transfers to multiple destinations within the region.

30 new, modern bus stations are being built as part of the project. T-way customers will be able to get on a bus at one of these stations or catch a local bus that joins the T-way along its route.

Public transport is important to your area. By taking people to work, shopping and leisure activities, it reduces car use and provides transport for people who don’t drive.

The North-West T-way will improve public transport services in your area. Existing bus services will use the T-way and some new bus services will be provided.

Bus priority will allow T-way services to travel at greater speed and make bus services more reliable as they won’t be caught up in traffic. This is possible through the dedicated bus corridor and by providing buses with priority on existing roads. Customers will have better and faster connections to the major regional centres of Blacktown, Parramatta and Castle Hill.

Changes to bus routes will be needed so the T-way can work effectively. This brochure outlines the proposed changes to existing bus routes.

Key Proposals

1.       Integrated Services

Local bus services will use the T-way. This makes bus travel seamless. Passengers will not have to change buses at  T-way bus stations in order to use T-way services. Creating this integration requires some changes to local bus services
2.       Improved Links to Regional Centres

Research shows that people prefer direct services to regional centres that have a major rail station, department stores, a large range of specialty shops, cinemas, restaurants, schools, government administration and office employment.

T-way bus services offer improved links to Parramatta, Blacktown, Castle Hill, North Ryde, Norwest Business Park and the Sydney CBD for residents within the T-way catchment.

3.       A Simplified Network

People prefer networks that are easy to understand. Most bus services will operate on the same route six or seven days a week.

4.       More Direct Services

Research also shows that people prefer services that are less circuitous. We are proposing to straighten some routes and reduce the number of diversions to ensure services remain as direct as possible while retaining links to major shopping centres, employment and educational destinations, and the rail network.

5.       Greater Travel Opportunities

The proposed routes have been designed to open up more travel opportunities by anchoring each route at a regional or district centre and ensuring that other important destinations are served along the way.

An overview of all changes can be found in this brochure under the heading “Routes Proposed to Change”.

6.       Revision of networks

Over time services will be reviewed in response to the growth in population and development in the North West sector.

T-Way Bus Services

Busways and Hillsbus currently provide bus services within the T-way catchment. The two companies will work together to provide services on the T-way and are working closely with the Ministry of Transport during the planning for T-way bus services.

Both Busways and Hillsbus have been servicing communities in Western Sydney for many years. This experience and knowledge will assist in building successful T-way services for communities in North-West Sydney.

Planning for T-way bus services has now begun. Changes to local services provide access to the T-way without the need to change buses.

How Bus Services ARE DESIGNED

Busways and Hillsbus take many factors into account when designing bus routes and timetables. Continuous effort is made to ensure services are more frequent, direct, reliable and accessible to the majority of the community.

Over the years we have backed up these services with easy to read timetables, helpful information lines and our company websites.

Bus services are designed to take people to and from:
      work
      schools, universities and TAFE colleges
      shopping and entertainment
      friends and relatives

Connections to trains and other services are provided wherever possible.

Bus services operate within 400 metres of the majority of the community between 6.00 am and 6.30 pm Monday to Saturday. On weekday evenings, Saturday evenings and Sundays bus services operate within 800 metres of the majority of the community.

Over the years Busways and Hillsbus have prided themselves on offering the community the best possible bus service to match their travel demands. Both companies strive to continue improving bus services wherever possible by conducting market research, analysing travel demand and assessing customer feedback.
